The HTTP Basic Authentication modules in ((OTRS)) Community Edition 6 and prior accept the authenticated username from either the REMOTE_USER or HTTP_REMOTE_USER environment variable. In CGI and mod_perl based deployments, HTTP request headers may be mapped to corresponding HTTP_* environment variables. As a result, an unauthenticated remote attacker can supply a crafted Remote-User request header which is exposed to the application as HTTP_REMOTE_USER. When HTTP Basic Authentication is configured as the authentication backend, OTRS trusts this value as an already authenticated username and does not perform an additional password verification. An attacker may therefore authenticate through the Generic Interface as an existing agent or customer user without knowing the corresponding credentials. The resulting privileges depend on the account being impersonated. Successful exploitation may allow access to confidential information and modification of data or configuration with the permis

This CVE exploits attack patterns that Casky's 0matched skills already investigate — long before this vulnerability was disclosed. Claude's reasoning model maps these techniques to MITRE ATT&CK, so practitioners who ran these skills have already seen the threat behaviour in their findings.
CVE-2026-93582 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability affecting OTRS Community Edition 6 and earlier versions. The flaw exists in HTTP Basic Authentication modules that accept authenticated usernames from either the REMOTE_USER or HTTP_REMOTE_USER environment variables. In CGI and mod_perl deployments, HTTP request headers are mapped to corresponding HTTP_* environment variables, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject a crafted Remote-User header that the application treats as a legitimate authenticated user. This vulnerability (CWE-290: Authentication Bypass by Spoofing) has a CVSS score of 9.4, making it critical. Organizations running vulnerable OTRS versions face immediate risk of unauthorized access, data theft, and system compromise, as attackers can completely bypass authentication without valid credentials.
While MITRE ATT&CK techniques are not formally mapped to this CVE, Casky's security skills powered by Claude AI would detect attack patterns associated with T1078 (Valid Accounts) and T1556 (Modify Authentication Process) by analyzing HTTP traffic for suspicious Remote-User header injection attempts. Practitioners using Casky would observe findings indicating anomalous authentication environment variable manipulation, unusual header patterns in HTTP requests aimed at OTRS endpoints, and authentication claims from sources that bypass standard credential validation. The platform's extended reasoning capabilities would correlate these behavioral indicators—such as requests with forged Remote-User headers lacking corresponding valid HTTP Basic Authentication credentials—to identify exploitation attempts. Security teams would see alerts for unauthenticated access followed by authenticated session behavior, a telltale sign of successful header spoofing attacks requiring immediate remediation through version updates or environment variable filtering.
