FreeRDP from 3.14.1 before 3.32.0 contains an integer underflow in the WinPR BMP writer, where a mismatched stride calculation passes SIZE_MAX - 3 to Stream_Zero for sub-byte images. A malicious RDP clipboard peer can return a crafted 1-bpp BMP processed by clipboard_synthesize_image_format_to_bmp for CF_DIB/CF_DIBV5, crashing the client or causing an out-of-bounds write.

This CVE exploits attack patterns that Casky's 0matched skills already investigate — long before this vulnerability was disclosed. Claude's reasoning model maps these techniques to MITRE ATT&CK, so practitioners who ran these skills have already seen the threat behaviour in their findings.
FreeRDP versions 3.14.1 through 3.31.x contain a critical integer underflow vulnerability in the WinPR BMP writer component. When processing specially crafted 1-bit-per-pixel (1-bpp) bitmap images through the RDP clipboard functionality, a stride calculation error causes the code to pass an extremely large value (SIZE_MAX - 3) to memory zeroing operations. This vulnerability affects any organization using FreeRDP as their RDP client, particularly those in remote work environments, helpdesk operations, or system administration roles. A malicious RDP server or clipboard peer can exploit this flaw to crash the client application or write data outside allocated memory boundaries, potentially enabling remote code execution on vulnerable systems.
While this CVE currently has no mapped MITRE ATT&CK techniques, Casky practitioners would detect exploitation attempts by monitoring for anomalous RDP clipboard activity involving image format conversions (CF_DIB/CF_DIBV5 clipboard formats). Claude AI's extended reasoning capabilities would help identify the attack pattern: a legitimate-looking RDP clipboard data transfer that triggers integer arithmetic violations during image synthesis. Practitioners should focus their analysis on RDP session logs showing unexpected terminations during clipboard operations, memory access violations in FreeRDP processes, and any suspicious bitmap data transfers originating from untrusted RDP sources. Immediate patching to FreeRDP 3.32.0 or later, combined with network segmentation of RDP traffic and clipboard restrictions, represents the primary mitigation strategy for this vulnerability.
